So I was just randomly scrolling through Pinterest one day a few days ago when I was thinking about making starburst granny squares. So naturally, I went to YouTube to find a good tutorial from the crochet channel, simplydaisy and I actually thought it was pretty easy because the person who did the tutorial was really clear and thorough
What I didn’t realize was that it is so cheap to make starburst granny squares because it took so little yarn to make and it was very easy and quick. So little effort is used to make something so beautiful that can be used for blankets, bags, jackets, and almost anything you want. It also looks incredibly elegant.
For the materials, I purchased my yarn from Yarnaholic which is a yarn shop in Shopee (https://shopee.com.my/y_yarnaholic), and my 5.00 mm yarn hook was from Diaso.
Here is the way I made this granny square using the tutorial that I have linked above:
Materials used:
Black Yarn 5ply (Yarnaholic code: YA18)
Wine Red Yarn 5ply (Yarnaholic code: YA46)
Turmeric Yellow Yarn 5ply (Yarnaholic code: YA34)
White Yarn 5ply (Yarnaholic code: YA19)
5.00mm yarn hook
Yarn needle
For the inner part of the granny square, I used black yarn and I made a slipknot and chained 4 and slip stitch to the first stitch. I chained three and double crochet 15 times into the hole in the middle, taking my time to count it carefully. I then slip stitched to the first double crochet and tied off the black yarn.
For the second round, I attached a wine red yarn into one of the chain spaces between 2 double crochets. I chained 3 and yarned over, going into the same chain space, yarning over and pulling out. Then yarn over, insert, yarn over and pull out and yarn over, insert, yarn over and pull out. When I have 7 loops on my hook, I yarn over and pull through all 7 loops. Then I chained 1 and continued to the next puff stitch, in the next chain space. I continued this until I had 16 puff stitches. In the end, I slipped stitch to the first puff stitch and tied it off. It will look like the image below.

The third round is made using the turmeric yarn and consists of the cluster stitch. I attached the yarn into one of the chain spaces between 2 puff stitches. I chained 3, yarn over, insert, yarn over, come out, yarn over, and pull through the first 2 loops out of the 3 loops on my hook. Then I yarn over, insert, yarn over, come out and then yarn over and pull through only the first 2 loops out of the 4 loops on my hook. Then, I yarn over, insert, yarn over, come out and then yarn over and pull through only the first 2 loops out of the 5 loops on my hook. Then yarn over and pull through all 4 loops that remain on my hook. Lastly, I chain 2 and I repeat the same steps till I have a total of 16 cluster stitches. In the end, I slipped stitch to the first cluster stitch and tied it off. It will look like the image below.

The last round would be the round that will make the square part of the granny square. Now, this part was the part where I assumed it'll be the hardest, but it was actually the most simple part of the whole granny square. I attached the white yarn in between the chain spaces of the cluster stitches and chained 4. Then I did 2 treble crochets into the same gap. In the next gap, I did 3 double crochets. In the gap after that, I did 3 half double crochets. In the fourth gap, I did 3 double crochets and in the next gap I started the corner where I did 3 treble crochets, then I chain 3 and another 3 treble crochets. I repeated this step till I had 4 corners. At the last gap, which is also the first gap, I chained 3 and slipped stitched into the first treble crochet and tied it off.
So in the end I weaved in all the ends and I ended up with a beautiful starburst granny square that I want to use for several projects.

That's all for today !!! Thank you for reading and have a nice day :)
love,
geetaa xoxo
